GROWING PAINS // Real Life of Storytellers

March 24, 2017
I think if this team was absolutely and completely honest with you, which we are, we would tell you that being a part of this trip has not been all it’s cracked up to be. It has been HARD. Not like World Race hard, but extremely difficult to pioneer.  When people look at us on this journey, they tell us how jealous they are of what we’re doing. Granted, it’s a really cool opportunity, but it’s nothing that anyone else couldn’t chase after. We struggle just like you and have incredible stories of hardship and overcoming things. The greatest storytellers have also been the deepest walkers of stories, and that’s incredibly true for us.     I think within crazy trips like these, you think everything is fine and dandy and planned and beautiful but it’s re…

WE WILL LISTEN // A Recap of Thailand

March 14, 2017
We sat in a room all seven of us and asked the Lord where to go in Thailand. We didn’t have anything planned yet accept flights out of Chiang Mai on March 7th. I got a word that Chantai would get the word for our direction. I looked up from the prayer to see her beaming smile ready to tell us everything the Lord had just downloaded to her. She resounds to the Lord through art in a journal of paintings, pictures and magazine clippings. She said she got the word to “build your house upon the rock” and she cut out pictures of cactuses and painted two strange shapes in her art journal. She researched “famous rock in Thailand” and found images of rock formations in Phuket that perfectly matched the shapes she had drew. She looked up the definition of ca…

TIME-LAPSE LIVING // A Recap of Cambodia

March 1, 2017
There is this incredible effect in film called a time-lapse. You’ve most likely seen them many times but you may not easily recall just because that’s exactly what a time-lapse intends to be – a smooth transition. Technically speaking, a time-lapse is a denoting photographic technique of taking a sequence of frames at set intervals to record changes that take place slowly over time. When the frames are shown at normal speed, or in quick succession, the action seems much faster. Fascinating, isn’t it?  This blog update is called time-lapse living because that is what it felt like in Cambodia. We lived slowly within the stories we were telling. We built deep connection – long exposure. We visited and revisited – set intervals. Still, now as we edit the footage from Cambodi…

ESSENCE OF A STORY TELLER // Who We Are

February 12, 2017
It all began with one story. THE story. Like the dawn of a new day it comes. It rises with colors exploding. It whispers of hope. Jesus was born to die so that we might live. Hope breathed into being. We had a way home. From His resurrection, hope; and word got around. Story. Story. Story. Year after year. Hope. Stories of hope, faithfulness, of a great love. You see, storytellers are born everyday. “Did you hear?” “Did you hear?” “Jesus.” “Jesus.” “Jesus.” A life changed. A life remade. Generation upon generation. Grace upon grace. Stories spreading. Hearts leaping. A great hope for all mankind. Night turns to morning. Joy flipped from mourning. Storytellers. In our blood. In our being. In …

WE’RE IN CAMBODIA // Update & Photo Blog 01

January 27, 2017
Hello, Emily here! The Wider Lens team has been in Siem Reap, Cambodia for a little over two weeks now. It feel like its been a month, so crazy, but in a good way. We’ve been SUPER busy filming and following stories here, but also very chill. We’ve been following some developing stories and filming interviews here at the Adventures In Missions “business as missions” base here called the Overflow Guesthouse and absolutely loving working together as a team in this vibe of Cambodia. We really feel like there’s some unsettled spiritual dust waiting to be settled and so many stories to be told and we just can’t wait to share them with you when the project is released by episodes come Spring! Check out some of the behind the scenes photos from this week below and subscribe to this blog! …

#WiderLensProject

January 12, 2017
Meet Team Wider Lens (From left to right: Julia, Owen, Kelsey, Evan, Emily, Joe, Chantai)  A group of creatives with a passion for storytelling – that’s us! We are a group of seven missionaries who have previously served around the world. We are coming together to journey, for 3 months, through Southeast Asia. Led by prayer and not a script, we will aim to find and document how God is moving in an authentic way throughout Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar. Perhaps we can aid in removing the cloak of mystery that surrounds the life of missionaries? Perhaps we can reveal a portion of an unlimited God? Perhaps we can tell stories that mobilize a generation of radical Christ followers, discipling and training them to establish the Kingdom of God. Come along and see.  J…

About the Project

December 21, 2016
Wider Lens is a docu-series by Adventures In Missions (AIM) aiming to find and document how God is moving in an authentic way through untold stories, missionaries, and organizations throughout South East Asia. We’re a small seven-person production team of World Race Alumni traveling throughout Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar(Burma), being led by the Spirit and not by a script. Our team is passionate about telling real stories of life on the field, the struggles of the characters living in it, and inviting you to come along in our own personal journeys and experiences firsthand. We desire to aid in removing the cloak of mystery that surrounds the life of missionaries, perhaps reveal a portion of an unlimited God and what a personal relationship with Him looks like, wh…
